Individual therapy: holding space for your needs

You want to calm the chaos and find ways to feel better, but you still struggle with...
→ Coping with current stressors or challenges from the past.
→ Finding balance with all of your roles and expectations, and finding time for you.
→ Asking for help without feeling like you’re burdening someone else with your challenges.
→ Managing mood and anxiety changes. Sometimes it feels so out of control.
→ Irritability, anger, and even rage.
→ Adjusting to all of the major and minor changes that occur in life.
→ Telling yourself to just “push through” and wearing the “mask”, but you know this isn’t working anymore.

"I've had many therapists in the past and was hesitant to start therapy again. But there was something genuine about Jennifer that gave me the courage to try again. She somehow has the ability to be direct and gentle at the same time, and I've never once felt judged. If you're on the fence give it a try. She really cares about her clients."

Individual therapy can help improve mental health, promote wellness, and feel empowered even through some of the most difficult challenges. With individual therapy you have undivided attention and the therapeutic space needed to freely express yourself. Additional benefits include, reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety, learning positive ways to manage stress, improving communication skills and relationships, improving self-awareness, and developing healthy coping skills.

This is a tough question to answer on a Q&A portion of a webpage. The length of therapy depends on many factors, including the frequency of sessions, consistency of sessions, willingness to be open in sessions (once trust has been established), response to treatment methods, complexity of presenting issues, etc. Although I cannot provide a direct answer to this question, I can say that may people begin feeling better and notice changes after just a few sessions. Everyone progresses at different rates, and goals vary from person to person as well. And that’s ok. I’m here to walk the journey alongside you. If there are concerns about the length of therapy, we can certainly explore this in more detail when working together.

Frequency of sessions is decided collaboratively between the client and therapist. Many times, weekly therapy is recommended in the beginning to ensure one has enough initial support and to begin building the tools and skills to cope with current stressors. The goal is often to decrease session frequency as time continues and the client needs less support. However, this is also tailored to the individual and can be changed at any time. If a person’s schedule does not allow for weekly sessions, they may be more spaced out. Or, if a major event occurs and a person feels they now need increased support, then we can adjust and schedule sessions more frequently. As with other parts of the treatment process, session frequency is based on an individual’s unique needs.
